Gorilla Safari in Rwanda for 5 Days
Upon arrival in Kigali, we’ll schedule a meeting for the introduction and tour briefings when you arrive early you will do the Kigali city tour and Kigali memorial site. Overnight Gorilla Hotel
This Morning after an early breakfast you will drive to Nyungwe Forest with a stop in Nyanza to visit the Royal Kingdom and be entertained with a traditional dance troop.
In the more modern Palace building, once the residence of King Mutara III Rudahigwa, there is a wide range of implements and photographs appertaining to the Kingdom and Kings (Mwami) while in an adjacent hill are the graves of King Mutara III himself (of whose death just before independence the Belgians were suspected of) as well as that of his wife Queen Rosalie Gicanda who was killed during the Rwandan genocide in 1994.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Nyanza and thereafter proceed to Nyungwe National Park. On arrival, you will check in at Top Hill View Hotel for dinner and overnight.
Following breakfast, proceed to the Park HQs for a Chimpanzee Trek. Briefing at 07:00, then enter the park for a half day expedition in search of the primates.
Besides being so high in such a picturesque location, the walk allows access to the upper parts of the forest, where one can see some unique ‘canopy’ species; apes, birds, butterflies, plants and insects, flowers, leaves and other animals that live in the roof of the forest WHICH are otherwise invisible but can now be seen at eye level, or even from above. It is an unforgettable experience.
Afterwards Transfer to Rubavu a city on the shores of Lake Kivu with an en-route lunch at Moriah Hill Resort in Kibuye also located on the lake shore Overnight at Gorilla Hotel
Relax at Lake Kivu, with a boat ride on Lake Kivu for exploration or have an evening walk to the hot springs. Afterwards transfer to Musanze for overnight Gorilla Hotel
In the morning after wakeup call and early breakfast you will drive to the Volcanoes National Park HQs for briefing at 0700hrs to be allocated to a Gorilla tracking group, thereafter head to the start of the trail of an amazing adventure. Upon sighting the gorillas, you will be allowed one hour with them as they go about their daily life.
Mountain Gorillas (Gorilla beringei) which inhabit the slopes of the Virunga volcanoesare a subspecies of the Eastern Gorilla, the largest living primate on earth. They are massive – with a short and thick trunk, broad chest and shoulders, longer arms than the stubby legs, their eyes and ears dwarfed by the large head, a flat nose and large nostrils and a shiny black muzzle.
Their fur is mainly black, but adult males have a silvery “saddle” on their back thus the name Silverbacks. The face, hands, feet and breast are bald. A fully grown male can be twice as large as a female and weigh up to 220 kg. The tallest silverback recorded was 1.94m and the heaviest, a 1.83m silverback, weighed about 266 kg.
Afterwards trek, drive back to the headquarters and lunch will be served at Musanze in a local restaurant. In the late afternoon you will drive back to Kigali and check in at Gorilla hotel for overnight.
